About me
My name is Claudio Ramírez-Garrido and I was born in Talca, Chile. I received a sound musical education from Miriam Sepúlveda, who taught me a new way of poetic interpretation of my instrument.
I then started my professional studies at the “Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile” with Alejandro Peralta Beher and Luis Orlandini. With both of these musicians, I improved my technical capabilities and my poetic interpretation of music.
During this period, my interest in research on other cultures developed, including different forms of spirituality and religions, in order to integrate my impressions of them in my own musical interpretation. At the “Hochschule für Musik Detmold/Abteilung Münster” in Germany, I completed my Master degree with Wolfgang Weigel. From 2007 to 2012 I did some research about Turkish religious music for a doctoral degree project in Ethnomusicology. Right now I’m working on researching the aspect of influence in the compositional process in the Chilean contemporary guitar music.
I have performed in Chile, Turkey, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Hungary, and Germany, with musical works ranging from the Renaissance to the present. However, I am reluctant to call myself a “specialist in…”, because my real passion is just to make music.
